Contemporary Photographer: Place

William Eggelston was born July 27th, 1939 in Memphis, Tennessee.  He was introduced to a camera at the age of 18, and became infatuated with photography since then.  After attending several colleges, he began to experiment with various types of film and negatives.  After presenting his work to fellow photographers, he published his first portfolio and was invited to give speeches and also received awards for his work.  In 1976 he had his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, which was followed by a book published with his work.  He traveled the world to create new pieces of art and capture landscapes.  His focus on landscapes earned him several awards, and many people and companies, including Coca-Cola, wanted him to take photos of their plants or land.
